Southern Plains Annual Mix
Annuals serve some important roles:
- They can bloom quickly in the spring to feed early pollinators
- They can fill space while your perennial garden plants grow
- They bring a low-commitment splash of color and diversity
This mix was developed with Northeast Oklahoma’s ecosystem in mind, but contains native plants found in Oklahoma and the broader Southern plains region. These seeds are relatively easy to grow, and will give you months of color.
- All residents of this seed mix prefer full sun, in well draining soil.
- These flowers thrive in average to poor soil in the wild – no need to fertilize!
- For best results, sow in late fall and let winter do the work. Spring planting also welcome.
Directions: Scatter seeds, rake or scuff lightly into the soil surface, and press down firmly. A thin soil covering helps larger seeds establish. The general rule of thumb: the larger the seed, the more soil goes on top.
This seed mix has a variety of sizes, from pea sized to almost powder-like. It is recommended you shake the contents into a separate container so you can evenly distribute the seed.
Important: Some seeds will emerge in the fall, rest as small seedlings over winter, and bloom in the spring. Don’t pull them!
